Transporting a casket to Mexico or the Caribbean requires strict adherence to health regulations and specific import permits.

Common Requirements

  • Original Passport: The deceased’s passport is required.
  • Legalized Translation (Mexico/DR/Cuba): Documents must be translated into Spanish and Legalized/Apostilled.
  • Metal Sealer Casket: Most airlines and destination countries require the remains to be placed in a hermetically sealed metal casket or zinc liner for air transport.
  • Receiving Funeral Home: You must provide the full contact details of the funeral home in the destination city who will receive the remains.

  • Application for "Transit Permits" or "Entry Permits" from the destination Government.
  • Coordination of the "Apostille" or Legalization of Canadian documents.
  • Registration of Death with the specific Consulate or High Commission.

  • Carry-On: Permitted for many islands provided the urn is X-ray scannable and you have the correct Death and Cremation certificates.
