Repatriation of Casket

Transporting a casket to Central or South America requires strict adherence to international health regulations and documentary precision.

Common Requirements

  • Original Passport: The deceased’s passport is required.
  • Zinc-Lined Casket: Almost all Latin American countries require the remains to be placed in a hermetically sealed zinc liner or metal casket for air transport.
  • Legalized Translation: Canadian documents (Death Certificate, Health Letter) must typically be translated and legalized (or Apostilled) to be valid in the destination country.
  • Receiving Funeral Home: You must provide the full contact details of the funeral home in the destination city who will receive the remains.

Repatriation of Cremated Remains

Repatriating ashes is a common choice, but "hand-carrying" ashes is not always permitted without specific Consular documentation.

Transport Options

  • Carry-On: Permitted for some destinations provided the urn is X-ray scannable and you have the correct Consular paperwork (often a "Certificate of Cremation" that has been legalized).
  • Unaccompanied Cargo: We can ship the urn via air cargo if you are not traveling.
