Repatriation of Casket

Transporting a casket to Europe generally requires a "Freedom from Infection" certificate and strict adherence to casket construction standards.

Common Requirements

  • Original Passport: The deceased’s passport (Canadian or European) is almost always required.
  • Zinc-Lined Casket: Many European countries (especially Italy, Greece, and France) legally require the body to be placed in a hermetically sealed zinc liner or metal casket for air transport.
  • Document Translation: We arrange for certified translations of death certificates into the destination language (e.g., Italian, Greek, Polish).
  • Receiving Funeral Home: You must provide the contact details of the funeral director in Europe who will receive the casket from the airport.

Repatriation of Cremated Remains

Repatriating cremated remains to Europe is generally simpler than a casket, but "hand-carrying" ashes is not permitted for every country without specific documentation.
